What was investigated

Two researchers from Denmark and London surveyed 387 people who take or have taken CBD — 20 questions online, a good three quarters from the United Kingdom, 61 per cent women, most between 25 and 54. The survey recorded the reason, the amount, the form of intake and the self-perceived effect.

What was found

The most frequently named reasons were self-perceived anxiety (43 per cent), sleep problems (43 per cent), stress and general wellbeing (37 per cent each). 54 per cent took less than 50 mg a day, 73 per cent under the tongue. Women more often reported anxiety and insomnia, older respondents more often pain.

What the study does not show

A survey says what people take a substance for — not whether it works. Participants selected themselves; all the figures are self-assessments, there is no control group and no measurement. The authors call for proper studies on the low amounts that are common in everyday use.
